Insert Google Analytics code with Goo Include Me plugin

Oct 19, 2016

This article explains how to insert in a few easy steps Google Analytics code in every front end page of WordPress installation, with Goo Include Me plugin.

“Google Analytics is a freemium web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. Google launched the service in November 2005 after acquiring Urchin. Google Analytics is now the most widely used web analytics service on the Internet.”

prerequisites: Google account, declared/claimed property in Google Analytics

In Google Analytics go to ADMIN -> (select property) -> Tracking Info -> Tracking Code
Here you should be able to see “Tracking ID”, “Status” etc.. Copy short JavaScript snippet displayed here, and paste it in CODE text area of the new rule in Arbitrary HTML section of the plugin.

Now let’s define rest of the rule:

  • Caption – google_analytics_code (or something similar to this)
  • Include into – Auto
  • Placement – Header

After you hit “Save Changes” you should see screen similar to this:

By visiting your site you should see “Status” count in Google Analytics just changed (sometimes with 30 sec delay), and soon enough you can track visitors in real time: All Web Site Data -> Reporting -> Real-Time -> Overview

This particular page (and whole site) uses same “rule” as described. Hit CTRL + U to see page source, and find a rule name ( google_analytics_code ) under which you will be able to see the CODE we just inserted.

That’s it, all done.
